Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Vimorby converts images inside your browser. The page's Content Security Policy only allows network connections back to vimorby.com itself, and the converter never sends image data. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.

Which formats can I convert from?

JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and AVIF and HEIC where your browser can decode them. Vimorby identifies files by their contents, not their names, so a misnamed file is still recognised.

Which formats can I convert to?

PNG and JPG in every supported browser. WebP in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and most others. AVIF only if your browser can encode it, which few can today. Formats your browser can't create are hidden, not faked.

Why is AVIF (or WebP) missing?

Your browser can't encode that format. For example, Safari displays WebP but can't create WebP files from a canvas. Try another browser if you need that output.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour you choose (white by default). Vimorby notes on the result when this happened.

Are animated GIFs and WebPs supported?

They are accepted, but only the first frame is converted, and Vimorby tells you when a file is animated. Animation-preserving conversion isn't available yet.

What are the file limits?

On desktop, up to 50 images per batch, 60 MB per file and about 64 megapixels per image. Phones and low-memory devices use lower limits (25 files, 30 MB, 24 MP) to avoid crashes. Oversized files are rejected with a clear message before any processing starts.

Why did my PNG get bigger?

PNG is lossless. Your browser's PNG encoder favours speed, so an image that was already optimised can grow when re-saved. Vimorby shows the exact change. Converting to WebP usually saves much more.

Is image metadata (EXIF) kept?

No. Re-encoding drops metadata such as camera model and GPS location. The image's orientation is applied first, so photos stay the right way up.

Can I cancel a conversion?

Yes. Cancel stops queued images immediately and ends any conversion in progress by shutting down its worker.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Vimorby works in modern mobile browsers, with large touch targets and memory-safe limits. On phones, images are converted one at a time.

Which browsers are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (desktop and mobile). Older browsers without background-worker canvas support fall back to converting on the main page, which is slower but works.

Does Vimorby use cookies or analytics?

No. Vimorby sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts.
